Actinidia polygama, better known as silver vine, is a longtime favorite with cats and their people in Asia. Similar to catnip, valerian root, and honeysuckle, it is one of many olfactory stimulants that help enrich the lives of cats. When exposed to silver vine cats enter a euphoric state that mimics catnip except it is more potent due to the presence of two cat attractants as opposed to catnip’s one. In fact, a recent study published by BMC Veterinary Research found that while one out of every three cats did not respond to catnip almost 80% of the domestic cats responded to silver vine.

I bought this to refresh silvervine toys, and it does work. However, while the original toys kept exciting my cats for a couple of weeks, the scent from this powder seems to disappear in a couple of days.

  Hi Anne, The reason the powder stops working more quickly when applied to toys on the outside is that the powder will fall off or be licked off by cats.
