How It Works

1. Contact us before ordering and tell us what you’d like engraved.
2. We’ll confirm whether your idea is suitable for laser engraving on slate.
3. Once we’ve confirmed your design can be created, place your order.
4. We’ll prepare and optimise the artwork specifically for laser engraving.
5. We’ll provide a digital design proof for your approval before engraving.
6. Once approved, we’ll individually laser engrave your coaster and prepare it for dispatch.

Natural Slate

Each coaster is made from natural slate, giving every piece its own individual character.

Slate naturally varies in texture, thickness, surface pattern and edge shape. Small chips, uneven edges, surface markings and other variations are normal characteristics of natural slate rather than manufacturing defects.

This means that no two custom coasters will ever be completely identical.

Permanent Laser Engraving

Your design is created by laser engraving directly onto the slate surface.

The engraving permanently changes the appearance of the stone, producing a contrasting lighter design against the naturally dark slate.

Unlike printed or vinyl decoration, there is nothing applied to the surface that can peel away.

The exact shade, texture and contrast of the finished engraving can vary naturally between individual pieces of slate.

Custom Artwork

If you’re supplying your own artwork, you are responsible for ensuring that you have any rights or permissions necessary for us to reproduce it.

Not every image is immediately suitable for laser engraving. Photographs, highly detailed artwork, very fine lines and images designed primarily for colour printing may need to be adapted before they can produce a good result on slate.

We may adjust elements such as:

• Contrast
• Line thickness
• Fine details
• Shading
• Backgrounds
• Overall composition

These adjustments are made to achieve the best possible result from the engraving process.

If substantial changes are necessary, we’ll discuss them with you and provide a design proof before engraving begins.

Your Finished Coaster

Your digital proof represents the intended design, composition and positioning of the engraving.

Because slate is a natural material and laser engraving physically alters its surface, the finished engraving will not look exactly like an image displayed on a screen.

Variations in the slate’s texture can also result in subtle differences across the engraving. This is part of the character of a genuinely engraved natural-stone product.
